What does it do?

Empagliflozin belongs to the class of diabetes medications known as SGLT2 inhibitors. It is used to lower blood sugar by blocking glucose reabsorption in the kidneys.

Empagliflozin inhibits the protein (SGLT2) that reabsorbs glucose in the renal tubules. As a result, glucose is excreted in the urine, leading to a reduction in blood sugar levels.
