What does it do?

Enarodustat is a compound in the class of hematopoietic stimulants used for the treatment of anemia. It is included in medications to increase red blood cell production by sensing a lack of oxygen in the body.

Enarodustat inhibits oxygen-sensing enzymes to mimic a hypoxic state in the body. This leads to an increase in the secretion of erythropoietin, a hormone that promotes red blood cell production, thereby improving anemia.

Good to know

Unlike conventional injectable erythropoietin, Enarodustat can be taken orally, making it convenient. It also differentiates itself from other hematopoietic stimulants by regulating the hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF) pathway.
