What does it do?

Cabotegravir sodium belongs to the class of integrase inhibitors. This component is used to inhibit viral replication by blocking the process through which the HIV virus inserts its genetic material into host cells.

Cabotegravir sodium disrupts the stage at which the HIV virus integrates its genes into the DNA of the host cell. This prevents the virus from replicating, thereby slowing or preventing the progression of the infection.

Commonly used for

Approved uses differ by product. Check each product's information for its actual use.

Good to know

Unlike other antiretrovirals, cabotegravir acts by directly targeting the integrase enzyme. As a result, the emergence of resistance is relatively low, making it a suitable drug for long-term treatment.
