What does it do?

Metformin hydrochloride is an oral hypoglycemic agent belonging to the biguanide class, primarily used for blood glucose control in patients with type 2 diabetes. Colloidal silicon dioxide is an excipient added to enhance the stability of the drug and the quality of the formulation.

Metformin hydrochloride reduces glucose production in the liver and increases insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues, thereby lowering blood glucose levels. This improves blood glucose control and aids in the management of diabetes.

Approved uses differ by product. Check each product's information for its actual use.

Good to know

Unlike other hypoglycemic agents, metformin does not directly stimulate insulin secretion, resulting in a lower risk of hypoglycemia. Colloidal silicon dioxide does not directly participate in the absorption or effectiveness of the drug, but plays a role in maintaining the stability of the formulation.
