What does it do?

Apalutamide belongs to the class of non-steroidal androgen receptor inhibitors. It is primarily used in the treatment of prostate cancer and is utilized to block the action of male hormones necessary for cancer cell growth.

Apalutamide binds to androgen receptors in prostate cancer cells, preventing male hormones from attaching to the receptors. This blocks the signaling that allows cancer cells to grow and proliferate, slowing the progression of the cancer.

Good to know

Apalutamide binds more strongly to the receptors than conventional androgen receptor antagonists and is characterized by delaying the development of resistance. Additionally, it has a lower ability to cross the blood-brain barrier, resulting in relatively fewer central nervous system side effects.
