What does it do?

Ezetimibe granules contain a drug component that selectively blocks the absorption of cholesterol in the intestines. It is mainly used to lower blood cholesterol levels to prevent cardiovascular diseases related to atherosclerosis. This component is sometimes used in conjunction with statins.

Ezetimibe reduces the amount of cholesterol absorbed from food and bile by inhibiting cholesterol transporter proteins in the intestinal wall. As a result, blood cholesterol levels decrease, reducing the formation of plaques in the blood vessels and preventing atherosclerosis.

Approved uses differ by product. Check each product's information for its actual use.

Good to know

Unlike statins that inhibit cholesterol synthesis, ezetimibe works by blocking absorption. Therefore, when the two drugs are used together, they can effectively lower cholesterol levels in a complementary manner.
