What does it do?

Axitinib is an anticancer drug that blocks vascular endothelial growth factor receptors. It is primarily used in the treatment of renal cancer and slows cancer progression by preventing the formation of blood vessels that supply nutrients to the cancer cells.

Axitinib blocks signals that promote the formation of blood vessels around the cancer cells. As a result, the supply of oxygen and nutrients to the cancer tissue decreases, inhibiting the growth of cancer cells.
