What does it do?

Silodosin belongs to the class of alpha-1A adrenergic receptor blockers. It is primarily used to relieve urination difficulties in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia. This ingredient relaxes the muscles of the prostate and urethra to improve urine flow.

Silodosin selectively blocks alpha-1A adrenergic receptors located in the prostate and bladder neck. This results in relaxation of the muscles in these areas, helping to facilitate better urine flow. Consequently, it reduces discomfort during urination and the sensation of incomplete bladder emptying.

Good to know

Silodosin selectively acts on alpha-1A receptors, resulting in fewer side effects compared to other alpha-1 blockers. In particular, it has a lower blood pressure-lowering effect, making it relatively safe for use in patients with hypertension. This characteristic distinguishes it from other similar medications.
