What does it do?

Imatinib Mesylate belongs to the class of antineoplastic agents known as tyrosine kinase inhibitors. It is primarily used for the treatment of chronic myeloid leukemia and some gastrointestinal stromal tumors, blocking the abnormal signaling in cancer cells.

This ingredient inhibits the activity of a specific enzyme called tyrosine kinase within cancer cells, disrupting the processes by which cancer cells proliferate and divide. This helps slow down or stop the growth of cancer cells.

Good to know

Unlike other antineoplastic agents, Imatinib Mesylate acts selectively on cancer cells with specific genetic mutations as a targeted therapy. This results in relatively fewer side effects and effective treatment.
