Atazanavir sulfate is an antiviral component belonging to the class of protease inhibitors that suppresses the replication of the HIV virus. This component is used to reduce the viral load in patients with HIV infection and to protect immune function.
Atazanavir blocks the protease enzyme necessary for the HIV virus to replicate, preventing the virus from reproducing properly. As a result, the viral load decreases and the progression of the infection is delayed.
