Sirolimus suspension is an immunosuppressant that prevents transplant rejection.
MFDS ingredient code M259798
Sirolimus suspension is a component belonging to the class of immunosuppressants, primarily used to suppress immune responses in organ transplant patients to prevent rejection of the transplanted organ. This component regulates excessive activation of the immune system through nonspecific immunosuppressive actions.
Sirolimus inhibits the proliferation and function of immune cells by blocking the activity of a specific protein complex called mTOR within the immune cells. This reduces the response of the immune system attacking the transplanted organ, thereby preventing graft rejection.
Approved uses differ by product. Check each product's information for its actual use.
Unlike other immunosuppressants, sirolimus acts by targeting the mTOR pathway. Hence, it has immunosuppressive effects along with influencing cell growth regulation, which may provide antitumor effects in certain situations.
