What does it do?

Clomiphene citrate is a drug in the anti-estrogen class that promotes women's ovulation. It is primarily used to treat infertility due to ovulation disorders, increasing the secretion of follicle-stimulating hormone from the pituitary gland to induce ovulation.

Clomiphene citrate binds to estrogen receptors in the brain, blocking the action of estrogen. As a result, the brain perceives a low level of estrogen, increasing the secretion of follicle-stimulating hormone to help the ovaries mature eggs and trigger ovulation.

Good to know

Clomiphene citrate is characterized by inducing ovulation through the hormonal regulatory mechanisms of the brain rather than supplying hormones directly. Unlike other ovulation stimulants, it acts indirectly through estrogen receptor antagonism.
