What does it do?

Lisinopril belongs to the class of drugs known as angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. It is primarily used in medications to lower the blood pressure of patients with hypertension and reduce cardiovascular strain.

Lisinopril works by blocking the production of angiotensin II, which constricts blood vessels, thereby causing the blood vessels to dilate. As a result, blood pressure decreases and the burden on the heart is reduced.

Commonly used for

Approved uses differ by product. Check each product's information for its actual use.

Good to know

Compared to other ACE inhibitors, Lisinopril acts directly in the body without being metabolized in the liver, but is excreted through the kidneys. This affects the duration of the drug's action and its side effect profile.
