What does it do?

Indapamide is a component belonging to the thiazide class of diuretics, primarily used in the treatment of hypertension and edema. It inhibits the reabsorption of sodium and water in the kidneys, helping to eliminate excess fluid from the body.

Indapamide helps to excrete more water and salt through urine by blocking the reabsorption of sodium and chloride ions in the distal convoluted tubule of the kidneys. This reduces blood volume, leading to lower blood pressure and alleviation of edema.

Good to know

Indapamide is similar to other thiazide diuretics but also has a vasodilatory effect, providing additional assistance in lowering blood pressure. It can also be used relatively safely in patients with mildly impaired kidney function.
