What does it do?

Desogestrel is a synthetic progestin female hormone ingredient. It is primarily used in oral contraceptives for the effective prevention of pregnancy. This ingredient helps regulate the female reproductive cycle.

Desogestrel acts similarly to natural progesterone in the body, suppressing ovulation. It also thickens cervical mucus, hindering the movement of sperm, and induces changes in the endometrium to create an environment that is unfavorable for the implantation of a fertilized egg.

Good to know

Compared to other progestins, desogestrel has fewer androgenic side effects and provides effective contraceptive effects as a single ingredient. Notably, it excels at suppressing ovulation even in low doses, and unlike some combined oral contraceptives, it is characterized by the absence of estrogen.
