Commonly used for

What kind of medicines are these?

Contraceptive pills are used when pregnancy is not desired. They help regulate the female menstrual cycle and prevent the implantation of a fertilized egg.

Contraceptive pills primarily use a combination or a single form of female hormones, estrogen and progestin, to suppress ovulation. They also thicken cervical mucus to hinder sperm movement and alter the endometrium to make implantation of a fertilized egg more difficult.

Good to know

Contraceptive pills are medications that prevent pregnancy through hormonal regulation and are distinguished from other hormonal therapies. Even though they may contain the same hormones, their mechanisms of action and uses differ from those of medications intended for therapeutic purposes rather than contraception.
