Commonly used for

What kind of medicines are these?

Astringents are used to alleviate symptoms caused by gastrointestinal dysfunction, such as diarrhea and constipation. They stabilize the intestinal environment and assist in normal bowel activity.

Astringents improve bowel conditions by regulating intestinal motility or controlling water absorption in the intestine. Some of them promote the growth of beneficial intestinal bacteria or adsorb toxins.

Good to know

Astringents are used for the treatment of diarrhea or constipation, but their mechanisms of action and purposes differ from those of antidiarrheal medications and laxatives. Antidiarrheal medications primarily aim to stop diarrhea, while laxatives focus on relieving constipation.
