Commonly used for

What kind of medicines are these?

Diuretics are used to eliminate excess fluid and sodium accumulated in the body, alleviating symptoms such as edema and hypertension. They are primarily prescribed for fluid management in conditions like heart failure, kidney disease, and cirrhosis.

Diuretics inhibit the reabsorption of sodium and water in the kidneys, increasing excretion in urine. This helps reduce the overall fluid volume in the body and lowers blood pressure.

Good to know

Diuretics are divided into several types based on their site of action and mechanism, each with different effects and side effects. Unlike other classes of medications, this drug group focuses on fluid elimination.
