Commonly used for

What kind of medicines are these?

Skeletal muscle relaxants are used to relieve muscle spasms or stiffness. They help to improve symptoms primarily in conditions such as muscle pain, muscle spasms, and spinal disorders. They are also used for muscle relaxation after surgery.

These drugs work on the central nervous system or peripheral nerves to reduce excessive tension in the skeletal muscles. Some block or inhibit the transmission of signals between nerves and muscles, inducing muscle relaxation. This helps to alleviate muscle stiffness and spasms.

Good to know

Unlike analgesics or anti-inflammatory drugs, skeletal muscle relaxants focus on directly relieving muscle tension. Unlike neuromuscular blockers with similar names, many skeletal muscle relaxants primarily act on the central nervous system. Therefore, there are differences in their intended use and mechanisms of action.
