This medication improves symptoms such as hypocalcemia, tetany, bone pain, and lesions resulting from vitamin D metabolic disorders in diseases such as chronic renal failure, hypoparathyroidism, vitamin D resistant rickets, and osteomalacia. It is also effectively used for bone-related diseases like osteoporosis. Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

Chronic renal failure and osteoporosis: Administer 0.5 to 1 µg of alfacalcidol orally once daily. Hypoparathyroidism and other vitamin D metabolic disorders: Administer 1 to 4 µg of this medication orally once daily.

Children's dosage

Osteoporosis: Administer 0.01 to 0.03 µg of alfacalcidol orally once daily per kg of body weight. Other conditions: Administer 0.05 to 0.1 µg of this medication orally once daily per kg of body weight.

Precautions

This medication should not be taken by patients with hypercalcemia, hyperphosphatemia, or hypermagnesemia. It should also not be used if the product of calcium and phosphorus in the blood exceeds a certain value or if the blood is excessively alkaline. People with symptoms of vitamin D toxicity or hypersensitivity to this drug and its components should avoid taking it.
