(Gastrointestinal disorders) Antacid and symptom improvement, (Metabolic disorders) Promotion of uric acid excretion and prevention of gout attacks
This medication improves symptoms through its antacid action in conditions such as gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastritis, and hyperacidity. It also helps relieve acidosis. Additionally, it is used to promote uric acid excretion and prevent gout attacks, making it effective for both gastrointestinal issues and gout management.
As sodium bicarbonate, administer 0.5-1g orally per dose, 3-5g per day. Adjust as necessary based on age and symptoms.
This medication should not be used in patients who need to limit sodium intake, such as those with hypernatremia, edema, preeclampsia, bladder stones, or hypertension. Additionally, it contains lactose, so it should not be administered to patients with a genetic intolerance to lactose. Caution should be exercised in patients with severe gastrointestinal ulcers, impaired kidney function, reduced cardiac or pulmonary function, and electrolyte imbalances. While using this medication, metabolic abnormalities such as alkalosis or edema due to sodium accumulation may occur, so symptoms should be closely monitored, and dosage should be reduced or discontinued if necessary. Gastrointestinal side effects may include gastric distension, belching, and occasionally excessive gastric acid secretion. Special caution should be taken in patients with congestive heart failure or edema, those with excessive sodium retention in the body, and patients who cannot urinate (anuria or oliguria). It is recommended to take this medication before meals to avoid irritation caused by carbon dioxide and to use it with other antacids as needed. Long-term use may lead to alkalosis, so symptoms such as hematuria, vomiting, bleeding, and dehydration should be closely observed. This medication can increase the acidity (pH) of the gastrointestinal tract and body fluids, which may affect the absorption and excretion of other medications; therefore, it should be used cautiously with concomitant drugs. Additionally, taking it in excessive amounts with milk or calcium supplements may lead to symptoms such as hypercalcemia, hypernitrogenemia, and alkalosis; if these symptoms occur, the medication should be stopped and a doctor consulted.
Close attention is required if there is severe edema, hematuria, vomiting, bleeding, or signs of dehydration.
Alkalosis, edema due to sodium accumulation, etc., may occur. Gastric distension, belching, and rebound secretion of gastric acid may rarely occur.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a tightly sealed container to prevent exposure to air or moisture. The storage temperature should be kept at room temperature between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius.
