Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. Patients who are allergic to this drug or any of its components, children under 18 years of age, pregnant women, breastfeeding women, and patients with inflammatory bowel disease or a risk of bowel obstruction should not take this medication. Additionally, patients with severe digestive disorders or chronic intestinal diseases and patients with significantly impaired kidney function should avoid this medication. Caution is required when used in conjunction with other medications that lower blood sugar, as it may worsen hypoglycemia. Particularly, when used with insulin, hypoglycemic symptoms may occur, and in such cases, it is recommended to treat with glucose rather than simple sugars. This medication can increase undigested carbohydrates in the intestine, potentially causing symptoms such as gas, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and abdominal bloating. These symptoms are related to the dosage of the medication or the amount of food intake; if symptoms are severe, the dosage should be reduced or a doctor should be consulted. If diarrhea persists, careful monitoring is required, and if necessary, medication should be discontinued. Rarely, gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, constipation, and dyspepsia may occur. This medication can interact with other drugs, so particular caution should be exercised when taken with blood sugar-lowering agents, digestive enzymes, laxatives, or some heart medications. It is safest for pregnant or breastfeeding women not to take this medication, and women who may become pregnant should also avoid use. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as abdominal bloating, diarrhea, and abdominal pain may occur, and intake of carbohydrate-containing foods or drinks should be avoided for some time, with appropriate treatment for diarrhea. This medication should be stored out of reach of children and it is advisable not to transfer it to another container. No specific effects are known when operating machinery or driving.
