How to apply drops

Child eye dose

Children and adolescents aged 4~15 years: Instill 1 drop once daily at 5-minute intervals for a total of 3 instillations. Discard any remaining solution and the container immediately after instillation.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with primary glaucoma or those at risk of increased intraocular pressure. It should also not be administered to individuals allergic to any components of this medication or to children under 4 years old. Patients with Down syndrome, brain injury, spastic paralysis, benign prostatic hyperplasia, or reduced bladder function should exercise special caution when using this medication. Furthermore, patients sensitive to belladonna alkaloids or with hypersensitivity to anticholinergic drugs should use it carefully. Long-term use of this medication may cause irritating symptoms such as eye inflammation, congestion, and swelling. In serious cases, respiratory suppression and low blood pressure may occur, and there have been reports of coma or death in children. If hypersensitivity reactions such as allergic conjunctivitis or blepharoconjunctivitis arise, use should be discontinued immediately. Possible eye-related side effects include secondary glaucoma or elevated intraocular pressure, and cardiovascular symptoms such as elevated blood pressure or palpitations may also occur. Psychologically, hallucinations, convulsions, and excitement may occur rarely, while gastrointestinal symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, and constipation. Children are particularly at risk for psychiatric reactions, behavioral changes, and high fever; therefore, caution is necessary. Care is required when driving or operating dangerous machinery, and since the medication may heighten sensitivity to bright light, wearing sunglasses is recommended. In the case of children, guardians must ensure the medication does not come into contact with the child’s mouth or skin, and they should wash their hands thoroughly after use. This medication may enhance the effects of other anticholinergic medications; thus, consulting a specialist prior to concurrent use is advisable. During pregnancy or lactation, its effects on the fetus or infant are not clearly understood, so it should only be used when absolutely necessary. In cases of overdose, severe toxic symptoms such as dry skin, blurred vision, rapid heartbeat, fever, altered mental status, and convulsions may occur; immediate medical attention is necessary. When instilling drops, lift the eyelids to place the drops accurately into the conjunctival sac, and it is recommended to close the eyes and press the tear duct to reduce systemic absorption. This medication is for ocular use only, and care should be taken to avoid contact of the tip of the container with the eye and to avoid sharing.
