Treatment and maintenance of erosive reflux disease, treatment of gastric ulcers, and prevention of NSAID-induced ulcer recurrence
This medication is used to treat gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers. It is also effective for treating erosive gastroesophageal reflux disease and for maintenance therapy after treatment. It particularly helps prevent the recurrence of gastric or duodenal ulcers that can occur with the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). This drug contributes to alleviating pain and inflammation while protecting the health of the stomach and esophagus. It is safely and effectively used to improve gastrointestinal diseases.

This drug should not be used by patients who are allergic to this drug or its components or have a history of hypersensitivity. Furthermore, it is contraindicated for patients taking certain antiviral medications like Atazanavir, Nelfinavir, or Rilpivirine. Caution should be exercised when administering this drug to patients with impaired renal function, liver function issues, and the elderly. Various gastrointestinal symptoms such as abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting may occur when taking this drug, and rarely, abnormalities such as gastritis or gastric polyps may also occur. Additionally, side effects including edema, allergic reactions, infections, myalgia, dizziness, insomnia, and skin rashes have been reported. Since liver function abnormalities and hepatotoxicity may occur, immediate discontinuation of this drug is necessary if symptoms of liver dysfunction arise. It is important to periodically monitor the condition through endoscopic examinations during long-term use. While this drug reduces gastric acid and aids in the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases, care must be taken as it may conceal symptoms of gastric cancer or increase the risk of recurrent gastric ulcers. Particularly, in older adults or with prolonged high-dose administration, the risk of fractures associated with osteoporosis may increase. This drug alters gastric acidity and can affect the absorption of other medications, so it should not be combined with certain drugs, and consultation with a specialist is necessary when taken together. Women who are pregnant or potentially pregnant should avoid this drug unless in special circumstances. If breastfeeding, it is advisable to avoid breastfeeding during treatment as this drug may be passed into breast milk. Safety for children has not been adequately established, so caution is advised when administering to children. In the elderly, metabolism of the drug may slow down due to decreased renal and liver function, so caution is warranted during administration.
