Improvement of symptoms related to vitamin D metabolism disorders (hypocalcemia, bone lesions, etc.) and osteoporosis
This medication is used to improve symptoms associated with vitamin D metabolism disorders such as chronic renal failure, hypoparathyroidism, and vitamin D resistant rickets or osteomalacia. It primarily helps alleviate hypocalcemia, muscle cramps (tetany), and bone pain and changes. Additionally, it is effective in the treatment of osteoporosis and is used to maintain and strengthen bone health.
For chronic renal failure and osteoporosis, administer 0.5 to 1 microgram of Alpha Calcidol orally once daily. For hypoparathyroidism and other disorders related to vitamin D metabolism abnormalities, administer 1 to 4 micrograms orally once daily.
For osteoporosis, administer 0.01 to 0.03 micrograms per kg of body weight orally once daily as Alpha Calcidol. For other conditions, administer 0.05 to 0.1 micrograms per kg of body weight orally once daily.
This medication should not be taken by patients with high levels of calcium or phosphorus in the blood. In particular, in cases of hypercalcemia, hyperphosphatemia, or hypermagnesemia, this medication may exacerbate symptoms. Additionally, patients with alkalosis, where the pH of the blood increases, should also avoid this medication. Patients with toxicity symptoms due to vitamin D overdose or those who have hypersensitivity to this medication should refrain from taking it. While taking this medication, it is important not to take magnesium-containing products, vitamin D and its derivatives, calcium-containing products, or certain diuretics together. Taking these medications together may cause excessively elevated calcium levels in the blood or increase the risk of side effects. It is advisable to avoid breastfeeding while on this medication, and particularly breastfeeding mothers should refrain from taking it as its safety has not been established. If it must be taken, it is preferable to stop breastfeeding. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should use this medication cautiously after consulting with their physician, as it may pose a risk of toxicity to the fetus. Children and elderly patients also require dosage adjustments and monitoring of serum calcium levels, and patients on certain medications should consult a physician before taking it. If symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, headache, dizziness, muscle cramps, palpitations, kidney dysfunction, skin rash, etc. occur while taking this medication, it is crucial to discontinue use and consult a medical professional immediately. In particular, as elevated calcium levels in the blood may cause problems with the kidneys or heart, regular blood tests and kidney function tests are necessary. Strictly adhere to the prescribed dosage and monitor calcium intake to avoid overdose, and periodically check serum calcium levels. If an overdose is suspected, seek medical attention immediately for appropriate emergency treatment. This medication should be stored out of reach of children, protected from direct sunlight, and kept in a cool and dry place. Additionally, to maintain quality, it should not be transferred to another container.
