This medication is used for the treatment of moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease. It helps improve memory decline and cognitive function deterioration caused by Alzheimer's disease. Treatment is expected to enhance the patient’s ability to perform daily activities and suppress symptom progression. Therefore, it is effectively used for symptomatic management in patients with moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication is taken orally once daily, at the same time each day. If necessary, it can be taken twice daily. The initial dosage increase is made by increasing 5 mg per week for 3 weeks. First week (Day 1 to 7): 5 mg once daily Second week (Day 8 to 14): 10 mg once daily Third week (Day 15 to 21): 15 mg once daily From the fourth week: 20 mg once daily The recommended maintenance dosage is 20 mg once daily.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For instance, individuals who have had an allergic reaction to this medication should not take it. Additionally, patients with severely impaired liver function or very poor kidney function should avoid this medication. Caution is needed when using this medication. Patients with epilepsy or those who have had seizures in the past should use this medication carefully. Also, it should not be taken with similar acting drugs such as amantadine, ketamine, or dextromethorphan, as this may worsen side effects.
