Improvement of symptoms related to vitamin D metabolism disorders (hypocalcemia, bone lesions, etc.) and osteoporosis
This medication is effective in improving symptoms caused by vitamin D metabolism disorders, such as hypocalcemia, tetany, bone pain, and bone lesions. It is particularly used in conditions such as chronic renal failure, hypoparathyroidism, vitamin D resistant rickets, and osteomalacia, and also helps in the treatment of osteoporosis. It significantly contributes to maintaining bone health and alleviating related symptoms.
Chronic renal failure·osteoporosis: Administer orally 0.5∼1㎍ of Alfacalcidol once daily. Hypoparathyroidism, other diseases due to vitamin D metabolism disorders: Administer orally 1∼4㎍ of this medication once daily.
Osteoporosis: Administer orally 0.01∼0.03㎍ per kg body weight once daily. Other diseases: Administer orally 0.05∼0.1㎍ per kg body weight once daily.
This medication should not be taken by individuals with abnormally high calcium and phosphorus levels in the blood. Particularly, patients with hypercalcemia, hyperphosphatemia, or hypermagnesemia should not use this medication. It is also advisable for patients with metabolic alkalosis to avoid this medication. Avoid use if there are toxic symptoms from excessive vitamin D intake or if there is an allergy to this medication. During the use of this medication, it is important not to take it along with magnesium-containing preparations, vitamin D and its derivatives, calcium-containing preparations, or certain diuretics, as this may dangerously elevate blood calcium levels. Women who are breastfeeding should avoid using this medication as its safety has not been established. If it is necessary to use it, it is advisable to stop breastfeeding. Pregnant women or women who could become pregnant should only take this medication after sufficient consultation with a physician, as it may be harmful to the fetus. Children and the elderly, as well as patients taking certain medications, should particularly exercise caution when using this medication and should regularly monitor serum calcium levels. During the treatment with this medication, symptoms of hypercalcemia such as loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, headache, muscle cramps, palpitations, and renal dysfunction may occur. If such symptoms occur, it is important to consult a healthcare professional immediately. In case of overdose, usage must be discontinued immediately, appropriate treatment should be received, and serum calcium levels should be regularly monitored to maintain them within normal ranges. This medication should be stored out of reach of children and kept in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Additionally, it is important not to transfer it to another container to maintain quality.
