This medication is used to improve symptoms such as hypocalcemia, tetany, bone pain, and lesions caused by vitamin D metabolic disorders. It is particularly effective for diseases such as chronic kidney failure, hypoparathyroidism, vitamin D resistant rickets, and osteomalacia. It is also used to treat osteoporosis, enhancing bone health. Therefore, it helps in treating bone diseases associated with calcium metabolism disorders.

How to take

Adult dose

Chronic kidney failure and osteoporosis: Alpha Calcidiol 0.5-1 ㎍, taken orally once daily. Hypoparathyroidism and other diseases due to vitamin D metabolic disorders: This medication 1-4 ㎍, taken orally once daily.

Child dose

Osteoporosis: Alpha Calcidiol 0.01-0.03 ㎍ per kg body weight, taken orally once daily. Other diseases: This medication 0.05-0.1 ㎍ per kg body weight, taken orally once daily.

Precautions

This medication should not be taken by patients with hypercalcemia, hyperphosphatemia, or hypermagnesemia, or by patients whose blood calcium and phosphorus product exceeds a certain threshold. Patients with alkalosis or symptoms of vitamin D toxicity should also avoid taking this medication. Individuals with allergic reactions to this medication or its ingredients should not take it. During the use of this medication, it should not be taken with magnesium-containing medications, vitamin D and its derivatives, calcium supplements, or certain diuretics. Breastfeeding women should avoid taking this medication as its safety has not been established; if unavoidable, it is advisable to discontinue breastfeeding. Pregnant women or those who may become pregnant should consult a physician before taking this medication, as it may harm the fetus. Children, elderly individuals, patients on specific medications, those with kidney stones or sarcoidosis should consult a specialist before taking this medication. Various side effects such as hypercalcemia, renal function abnormalities, liver dysfunction, skin rash, or eye symptoms may occur; careful observation is required. If symptoms occur, immediately stop taking the medication and consult a healthcare professional. Regular tests of serum calcium levels should be conducted to prevent side effects due to overdose while taking this medication. In cases of overdose, stop taking the medication immediately and seek appropriate treatment, which may include inducing vomiting or gastric lavage. This medication should be stored out of reach of children and kept in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Additionally, for quality maintenance, it should not be transferred to another container.
