Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medicine is used to help patients with type 2 diabetes control their blood sugar levels. It is most effective when taken together with dietary and exercise therapy, as Empagliflozin and Linagliptin work together to aid in improving blood sugar levels. This supports treatment for individuals who find it difficult to manage their blood sugar.
The recommended starting dose of this medication is Empagliflozin 10 mg/Linagliptin 5 mg once daily. If tolerance to Empagliflozin 10 mg/Linagliptin 5 mg is established and further blood sugar control is needed, the dose may be increased to 25/5 mg once daily. This medication can be taken regardless of meals. The tablet should be swallowed whole. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as remembered.
This medication consists of two components, Empagliflozin and Linagliptin, and is primarily used for diabetes treatment. First, this medication should not be taken by those who are allergic to Empagliflozin, Linagliptin, or other ingredients in the medication. Additionally, it should not be used by patients with type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, or those undergoing dialysis. This medication contains lactose, so individuals with genetic metabolic disorders such as lactose intolerance or galactose intolerance should avoid taking it. Patients with reduced kidney function may experience decreased effectiveness of this medication, so it is important to regularly check kidney function before and after administration. Those with heart disease associated with kidney failure should also exercise caution, and it is not recommended for patients with severe heart failure. Due to the presence of Linagliptin, acute pancreatitis may occur; thus, if severe abdominal pain or other symptoms of pancreatitis arise, the medication should be stopped immediately and a doctor consulted. Additionally, a rare skin condition known as bullous pemphigoid may occur, so if blisters or skin irritation appear, medical personnel should be informed immediately. The most common side effect of this medication is urinary tract infection, and genital infections may also occur. Symptoms of hypoglycemia may arise, so caution is needed, especially when taken with blood sugar-lowering agents like insulin or sulfonylureas. Due to potential fluid loss, blood pressure may drop; therefore, individuals with hypotension or cardiovascular disease should use this medication carefully, and if dehydration is suspected, the medication may need to be temporarily discontinued. Elderly patients, particularly those over 75, should be more cautious due to the increased risk of fluid loss and hypotension. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant are advised not to use this medication, and nursing mothers are also recommended to discontinue breastfeeding during treatment. Children under 18 years of age should not use this medication, as its safety and efficacy have not been established for this age group. Furthermore, this medication may have mild effects when driving or operating machinery; therefore, caution is necessary to reduce the risk of hypoglycemia, particularly when taken with blood sugar-lowering agents. Lastly, if this medication is taken together with insulin or sulfonylureas, there may be an increased risk of hypoglycemia, so dosage adjustments may be necessary. When taken with diuretics, there is an increased risk of dehydration and hypotension, so consultation with medical personnel is essential. When storing this medication, keep it out of reach of children and store it in its original container for safety.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a tightly sealed container to protect it from air and moisture. It is also recommended to store the medicine at room temperature between 1 degree and 30 degrees Celsius.
