Treatment of moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease
This medication is used for the treatment of moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease.
This medication is administered orally once daily and should be taken at the same time every day. If necessary, it may be administered twice daily. Dosage increase: The maximum daily dosage is 20 mg, and to minimize the risk of adverse reactions, it should be increased weekly by 5 mg over the first 3 weeks. First week (Day 1-7): Administer 5 mg once daily for 7 days. Second week (Day 8-14): Administer 10 mg once daily for 7 days.
This medication should not be used in patients who are allergic to its components. It is safe not to administer this medication in patients with severely impaired liver function or very poor kidney function. Patients with seizures or epilepsy, or those with a history of seizures should use this medication with caution. Concomitant use with drugs that have similar effects, such as amantadine, ketamine, and dextromethorphan, may exacerbate side effects, so they should not be taken together. Careful monitoring should be conducted in situations where the acidity (pH) of urine may change or there are changes in eating habits. Patients with recent heart disease or uncontrolled hypertension should pay special attention when using this medication, and careful judgment is required due to lack of related data. During treatment with this medication, symptoms such as dizziness, headache, constipation, drowsiness, and hypertension may occur; if symptoms are severe, medical consultation is recommended. This medication may interact with other drugs, so especially when used with particular muscle relaxants, antipsychotics, anticoagulants, etc., it is necessary to inform healthcare professionals and to be managed carefully. Pregnant women or those who may become pregnant should consult with a doctor before taking this medication, and breastfeeding should be discontinued if nursing. It is advisable not to use this medication in children or adolescents under 18 years old, as its safety and efficacy have not been established. In case of overdose, symptoms such as confusion, drowsiness, dizziness, and vomiting may occur, and in such cases, immediate medical attention should be sought. This medication may affect the central nervous system, so caution is needed when driving or operating machinery.
