Precautions

This medication is used for the treatment of diabetes and plays a role in lowering blood sugar. However, there are several precautions to be taken when using this medication. First, it should not be used in patients with impaired kidney function, severe infections, dehydration, or heart failure. Additionally, pregnant or breastfeeding women should not take this medication. This medication may cause hypoglycemia; therefore, special caution should be taken when used alongside insulin or other blood sugar-lowering medications. Regular kidney function tests should be performed during treatment, and if there are symptoms of dehydration or severe gastrointestinal disorders, the medication may be temporarily stopped. Also, it must be discontinued before and after using tests that involve iodine-based contrast agents and resumed only after kidney function has returned to normal. This medication can potentially cause serious side effects such as lactic acidosis, so medical advice should be sought immediately if unusual symptoms occur. Urinary tract infections or genital infections may occur; prompt treatment is necessary if infection symptoms arise. This medication may decrease vitamin B12 levels, so periodic vitamin B12 tests are recommended for long-term use. Alcohol consumption may increase the risk of lactic acidosis, thus excessive drinking should be avoided while on this medication. Elderly patients or those with reduced fluid volume need to be cautious of dehydration and low blood pressure, and should have their condition regularly checked. Lastly, regular follow-ups with a doctor are necessary while taking this medication, and any unusual symptoms should be reported immediately.
