This medication is used to help patients with type 2 diabetes control their blood sugar levels. The combination of empagliflozin and linagliptin works together to help improve blood sugar levels that are difficult to control through meal plans and exercise. In other words, this medication plays a role in effectively enhancing blood sugar management when added to existing treatments. It is used as a medication that positively contributes to blood sugar control.

How to take

Adult dose

The recommended starting dose of this medication is 1 time daily of empagliflozin 10 mg/linagliptin 5 mg (6.67 mg as linagliptin besilate). If well tolerated and additional blood sugar control is needed, the dose may be increased to 25/5 mg once daily. This medication can be taken regardless of meals, and tablets should be swallowed whole. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as remembered.

Precautions

This medication contains empagliflozin and linagliptin and should not be administered to certain patients. It should not be used in cases of hypersensitivity, type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, or patients undergoing dialysis. Patients with impaired renal function may experience reduced effectiveness, so kidney function should be regularly tested before and during treatment. It should be used with caution in heart failure patients, and if symptoms of pancreatitis appear, use should be discontinued immediately. Additional consultations should be sought if blistering skin lesions occur. This medication may cause urination infections, genital fungal infections, hypoglycemia, ketoacidosis, and other side effects, thus symptoms should be closely monitored. Particularly, there may be an increased risk of hypoglycemia when taken alongside insulin or sulfonylureas. Elderly patients or those at risk of reduced fluid volume should be careful of dehydration and low blood pressure while regularly checking their blood pressure and fluid status. Immediate treatment should be sought for serious infection symptoms such as urinary tract infections, pyelonephritis, or gangrene of the perineum. Pregnant or breastfeeding women are advised to avoid this medication, and breastfeeding should be discontinued if the medication is being used. Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients under 18 years of age have not been established, so use is not recommended. Immediate medical attention is required in case of overdose, and this medication should be stored out of the reach of children. Furthermore, it should not be transferred to another container and should be kept in the original container.

Urticaria, angioedema, ketoacidosis, pancreatitis, bullous pemphigoid, pneumonia, sepsis, acute pyelonephritis, urinary tract sepsis, severe allergic reactions, acute cholecystitis, acute cholangitis, acute biliary pancreatitis, cholangitis, liver impairment (jaundice), acute kidney injury, end-stage renal disease, heart failure, congestive heart failure, cardiac arrest, acute myocardial infarction, angina, unstable angina, cerebral infarction, intracranial aneurysm, and severe edema accompanied by increased blood pressure.
