Efficacy & effects

Improvement of blood pressure control in essential hypertension

  • Essential hypertension
View approved original text

This medication is used to treat essential hypertension, which is a condition where elevated blood pressure places a burden on the cardiovascular system. It is particularly helpful when the two drugs do not effectively lower blood pressure when used together. It provides appropriate treatment for patients with difficult-to-control blood pressure, reducing the risk of complications and helping to maintain healthy blood pressure. This medication plays a critical role in improving hypertension, so it is important to take it consistently as directed by a physician.

How to take

Adult dose

The recommended dosage is 1 tablet once daily with water, irrespective of meals. It is advised to take it at the same time every day (e.g., morning) whenever possible. For patients whose blood pressure is not controlled with amlodipine/valsartan combination therapy, this medication 5/80/12.5 mg should be administered, with dosage adjustments made at intervals of over 2 weeks based on the patient's blood pressure response. The maximum dose of this medication is 10/160/25 mg.

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm or death to the fetus and newborn if taken during pregnancy, so it must be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Patients with impaired liver function or liver cirrhosis should be cautious as severe complications, such as hepatic coma, may occur while taking this medication. Patients with severe kidney disease should consult a physician before taking this medication, as some ingredients may accumulate in the body and cause hyperazotemia. Patients who are allergic to any of the ingredients in this medication or have allergies to certain antihypertensive drugs should not take it. Patients with severe hypotension, significant liver impairment, severe kidney impairment, pregnant or nursing women should not use this medication. Patients with sodium or fluid depletion may experience worsening hypotension, so they should stabilize their condition and be monitored by a physician before administration. Patients with high serum potassium levels or at risk of hyperkalemia should have their potassium levels monitored frequently while taking this medication. Patients recovering from heart failure or myocardial infarction should be cautious when using this medication due to the possibility of pulmonary edema or exacerbation of heart failure. This medication is metabolized in the liver, so patients with impaired liver function need to adjust the dosage and be cautious. There is a risk of a rapid drop in blood pressure, especially in patients taking diuretics or those with fluid depletion, so they should be alert for symptoms of hypotension when taking it for the first time. Symptoms such as dizziness, headache, fatigue, and swelling may occur during treatment. If symptoms persist, consult a physician. Drug interactions may occur when combined with other medications, so inform medical personnel of any medications being taken. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, as well as nursing mothers, should not take this medication and should discontinue it immediately if pregnancy is confirmed while taking it. Elderly patients may be more susceptible to dehydration, hypotension, and electrolyte imbalances, so starting at a low dose and closely monitoring their condition is advised. In case of overdose, symptoms such as low blood pressure, shock, or altered consciousness may occur, so seek immediate medical attention for appropriate treatment. This medication should be stored out of reach of children, in an airtight container, away from direct sunlight and moisture, and not transferred to another container.
