Mydriasis for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes
This medication is primarily used to dilate the pupil, allowing detailed observation or diagnosis of the interior of the eye during ophthalmic procedures. Additionally, pupillary dilation is essential in various ophthalmic treatments including intraocular pressure measurement and cataract surgery. This medication aids in accurately assessing the patient's eye health and developing appropriate treatment plans. Therefore, it plays a very important role in ophthalmic examination and treatment processes. This medication is used to promote dilation of the eye.
Children and adolescents aged 4~15 years: Instill 1 drop once, at 5-minute intervals, for a total of 3 instillations. Discard any remaining solution and the container immediately after use.
This medication should not be used in patients with primary glaucoma or shallow anterior chambers as they are at risk of increased intraocular pressure leading to acute glaucoma attacks. It should also not be administered to patients with hypersensitivity to this medication or children under 4 years of age. Patients with Down syndrome, brain injury, spastic paralysis, prostatic hypertrophy, bladder dysfunction, acute pulmonary edema, etc., should use this medication with particular caution. Patients sensitive to the active ingredient should also be careful. Long-term use of this medication may lead to irritative symptoms such as inflammation, congestion, or swelling in the eyes. In severe cases, respiratory depression and hypotension may occur, with reports of coma or fatalities especially in children. If any allergic reactions such as allergic conjunctivitis or blepharoconjunctivitis occur, use should be discontinued immediately. This medication may increase intraocular pressure, so extra caution is needed in patients with glaucoma or elderly patients. Various side effects such as increased blood pressure, palpitations, hallucinations, convulsions, agitation, nausea, vomiting, and constipation may occur. In children, there is a heightened risk of psychiatric reactions, behavioral changes, or hyperthermia, so extra care is necessary. During the use of this medication, patients should avoid driving or operating dangerous machinery due to the effects of dilation or paralysis of accommodation, and sunglasses are recommended due to increased sensitivity to bright light. For children, care should be taken to prevent the medication from coming into contact with the mouth or skin, and hands should be thoroughly washed after use. This medication may increase intraocular pressure, so intraocular pressure and anterior chamber angle must be checked before use, especially in patients at risk of glaucoma attacks. The use of this medication in conjunction with other anticholinergic medications may exacerbate side effects, so a consultation with a physician is necessary. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should use this medication only when necessary, as the effects on the fetus or infant are not clearly understood, particularly during breastfeeding. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as flushing, dry mouth, blurred vision, irregular heartbeat, mental disturbance, and convulsions may occur, requiring immediate medical assistance. Care should be taken to avoid direct contact of the container opening with the eye during instillation, to avoid sharing, and not to repeat administration unnecessarily. This medication should be stored in a sealed container to prevent contact with air and should ideally be kept at room temperature between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius. This storage condition helps maintain the medication's effectiveness and prevents degradation.
