This medicine is primarily used to treat essential hypertension. It also helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease in patients with a history of coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease, stroke, transient ischemic attack, or in high-risk diabetes patients. It is particularly effective in patients over 55 who have difficulty using ACE inhibitors, reducing the risk of mortality due to myocardial infarction, stroke, and cardiovascular diseases, thereby improving health.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication is taken as an orodispersible tablet, placed on the tongue and allowed to dissolve without water. Do not crush or split the tablet. For Essential Hypertension: The adult dose is 40 mg taken orally once a day, without regard to food. If necessary, the dose can be increased up to 80 mg once a day, and the maximum blood pressure lowering effect appears 4 to 8 weeks after increasing the dose. For Reducing Risk of Cardiovascular Disease: The recommended adult dose is 80 mg taken orally once a day, without regard to food.

Precautions

This medication may cause severe harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters; therefore, it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Patients with allergies to this drug or its components, pregnant or breastfeeding women, individuals with severe liver impairment, and patients with hereditary angioedema should not take this medication. Elderly patients, those with hyperkalemia, patients with liver disease, heart disease, or kidney disease should take this medication with caution and should regularly monitor blood pressure, kidney function, and electrolyte status. If symptoms such as excessive lowering of blood pressure, dizziness, fainting, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or lips occur while taking this medication, medical consultation should be sought immediately. Patients with impaired kidney function or those undergoing hemodialysis should periodically check their blood potassium and creatinine levels when taking this drug. This medication has an increased risk of side effects when taken with other antihypertensives, especially ACE inhibitors, aliskiren, and potassium-sparing diuretics, hence caution is necessary during concurrent use. Patients undergoing surgery should ideally discontinue this medication 24 hours before surgery. Caution should be exercised as dizziness or fainting may occur while driving or operating machinery. This medication contains sorbitol, so patients with fructose intolerance should avoid it. In case of overdose, symptoms such as hypotension, dizziness, and acute renal failure may occur, and immediate medical evaluation should be sought. Safety and effectiveness of this drug have not been established in children; it is advised to keep it out of reach of children and to avoid moisture and direct sunlight during storage.
