Blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes and prevention of cardiovascular events
This medication is used alongside dietary and exercise therapy to help control blood sugar in adult patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be used alone or in combination with other medications. Caution is especially needed in patients with cardiovascular disease who do not achieve adequate blood sugar control. This medication improves blood sugar regulation and aids in diabetes treatment.
The recommended dosage for this medication is 10 mg once daily for monotherapy and additional combination therapy with other glucose-lowering agents such as insulin. If dosage is increased, it can be adjusted to 25 mg once daily. The medication can be taken regardless of meals, and the tablets should be swallowed whole. If a dose is missed, it should be taken as soon as remembered, but do not take double doses in one day.
This medication should not be used in patients with allergies to the active ingredient or any of its components. It should not be administered to patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Patients with genetic lactase deficiency, lactase enzyme deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption should also avoid this medication. Patients with reduced kidney function must check their kidney function before using this medication and should regularly monitor kidney function during treatment. Since the effectiveness of blood sugar control is highly dependent on kidney function, it is not recommended for patients with severely impaired kidney function. If insulin or sulfonylureas are taken concurrently, there is a risk of hypoglycemia, so the doses of these medications may need adjustment when taking this medication. Hypoglycemia symptoms may occur while taking this medication, so precautions are required, especially when taken with insulin or sulfonylureas. Women may experience vaginal infections or vulvar infections, and men are at risk of genital infections such as balanitis; if infection symptoms arise, immediate treatment is necessary. Increased urination may occur, so it's important to be aware of this, and urinary tract infections may also occur, so if symptoms appear, visit a hospital. Symptoms of reduced fluid volume or dehydration and hypotension may occur, so caution is especially needed for the elderly or patients taking blood pressure medications. In severe cases, serious infections such as necrotizing perineal infection may occur, so if any pain, swelling, or redness around the genital area occurs, immediately alert medical personnel. This medication can cause serious metabolic abnormalities such as ketoacidosis, so if symptoms like vomiting, abdominal pain, or difficulty breathing occur, seek medical attention immediately. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant are advised not to take this medication, and nursing mothers should also discontinue breastfeeding as a precaution. Children under 18 years of age should not use this medication as its safety and effectiveness has not been established. No specific toxic symptoms have been reported in the event of overdose; however, if symptoms occur, appropriate treatment should be sought immediately. While taking this medication, be cautious of risks of hypoglycemia when driving or operating machinery. Always take this medication according to the physician's prescription and instructions, and consult a specialist immediately if any abnormal symptoms occur during medication use.
Hives, angioedema, ketoacidosis, urosepsis, pyelonephritis, necrotizing fasciitis, difficulty breathing, symptoms of liver abnormalities (suspected jaundice), severe neurological symptoms (severe headache, confusion, seizures, paralysis, visual disturbances), severe swelling or urinary abnormalities (significant decrease in urine output, generalized severe swelling, high blood pressure)
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication may be sensitive to air and moisture, so it must be stored in a tightly sealed container. It is best to keep it at room temperature between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius. This will help maintain the medication's effectiveness over time.
