Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is suitable for patients with type 2 diabetes to help control blood sugar levels along with dietary and exercise therapy. The two ingredients, empagliflozin and linagliptin, work together to more effectively manage blood glucose levels. Therefore, it is useful for maintaining stable blood glucose levels and reducing the risk of complications due to diabetes. With consistent use, this medication can contribute to healthy blood sugar management. This medication improves blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes.
The recommended starting dose of this medication is 1 tablet once daily containing 10 mg of empagliflozin / 5 mg of linagliptin. If additional blood sugar control is needed with good tolerance, the dose may be increased to 25/5 mg once daily. This medication can be taken regardless of meals, and the tablet should be swallowed whole. If a dose is missed, it should be taken as soon as remembered, but if the next dose is within 12 hours, skip the missed dose.
This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, patients with allergies to any of the ingredients, type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, or those undergoing dialysis should not take this medication. In patients with impaired renal function, the effectiveness of this medication may vary, so it is important to regularly test renal function before and during treatment. Due to limited experience with this medication in heart failure patients, it should be used with caution. Additionally, acute pancreatitis may occur, so if severe abdominal pain persists during treatment with this medication, it should be discontinued immediately and a healthcare provider should be consulted. There is a rare skin reaction called bullous pemphigoid that can occur, so if such symptoms appear, inform a doctor immediately. Taking this medication may increase the risk of urinary and genital infections, so if any signs of infection occur, prompt treatment is required. As there is a risk of hypoglycemia, particularly when taken with insulin or sulfonylureas, blood glucose levels should be closely monitored. Fluid loss may lead to low blood pressure, so caution is needed for patients taking antihypertensive medications or elderly patients. When driving or operating machinery, caution should be exercised due to the risk of accidents caused by hypoglycemia. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should generally avoid use of this medication unless in special cases. It is recommended that children under 18 years of age do not use this medication as its safety and efficacy have not been established. In case of overdose, contact a medical institution immediately for appropriate treatment, and this medication should be kept out of reach of children.
