Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, patients who are allergic to this medication or its components, patients with thyroid function abnormalities, patients with poor kidney function, newborns and infants under 6 months old, patients with herpetic dermatitis, and patients undergoing radioactive iodine treatment should not use it. Additionally, it should be used with caution in elderly patients with severe conditions or a history of thyroid disease or renal failure. Rarely, allergic reactions may occur during use, and symptoms such as pain, itching, irritation, rash, or redness on the skin may appear. If these symptoms are severe, use should be discontinued. Using large amounts may lead to side effects such as electrolyte imbalance, metabolic acidosis, and renal function abnormalities, so caution is necessary. Long-term use may result in changes in thyroid hormone levels, and extensive contact may cause a metallic taste, burning sensation in the mouth and throat, eye irritation, skin reactions, and gastrointestinal problems. Excessive use of this medication for disinfection may lead to iodine toxicity. If used shortly before giving birth, the newborn's eyes and skin should be thoroughly cleaned, and if symptoms do not improve, surgical treatment should be considered. When used for patients with extensive burns, adequate hydration and monitoring of kidney function and acid-base status should be ensured, and if there are indications of kidney dysfunction, use should be discontinued. Thyroid diagnostic tests and this medication's use should be performed at intervals of 1 to 2 weeks, and changes in thyroid function must be monitored closely. As an iodine-containing agent, large doses or long-term use may lead to thyroid dysfunction, so caution is necessary. If there is an infection, the area should be washed with saline before use, and in rare cases, serious allergic reactions such as anaphylaxis may occur, requiring immediate notification of medical personnel if symptoms are present. This medication may induce hyperthyroidism in patients undergoing lithium therapy, so co-administration is not recommended. Additionally, it should not be used in conjunction with certain disinfectants, enzyme therapies, or hydrogen peroxide, and pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid prolonged or extensive use. Absorbed iodine may affect the thyroid function of the fetus or newborn, so thyroid function tests are recommended for newborns or infants. The iodine component of this medication may affect the results of thyroid function tests, so caution is advised during testing. In case of overdose, symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, and coma may occur, requiring appropriate detoxification and treatment. Care should be taken to avoid this medication coming into contact with the eyes, and if it does, it should be rinsed immediately with clean water. Do not mix with other preparations, and ensure to clean the affected area before use, washing any clothing that comes into contact with the medication immediately. Soaps may reduce the bactericidal effect of this medication, so it should be used after thoroughly rinsing. When using an electric scalpel, care should be taken to ensure that this medication does not get trapped between the skin and the electrode, and it should be stored away from direct sunlight. Be cautious of using metal containers, as they may corrode; it is advisable to use synthetic resin containers.
