Precautions

This medicine should not be administered to certain patients. Individuals allergic to this drug or its excipients should not use it. Also, children under 18 years of age, pregnant women, and breastfeeding women should avoid taking this drug. Patients with inflammatory bowel disease, colonic ulcers, bowel obstruction, or conditions that can worsen with increased gas in the intestines should avoid this medication. Patients with severely impaired kidney function, especially those with a creatinine clearance of less than 25 mL/min, should not use this drug. This drug may increase the risk of hypoglycemia when used in combination with sulfonylureas, so caution and dosage adjustment are advised when taking these medications together. Additionally, patients allergic to the yellow dye No. 5 included in this drug should use it cautiously. Taking this medication may cause undigested carbohydrates to accumulate in the colon, leading to increased intestinal gas. Consequently, symptoms such as abdominal distension, diarrhea, and abdominal pain may occur, which may gradually alleviate with continued use of the drug. Foods high in sugar should be avoided as they can worsen symptoms, and if symptoms are severe, the dosage may be reduced or the medication stopped. This drug may interact with other medications, so caution is necessary when taken with sulfonylureas, metformin, intestinal adsorbents, laxatives, propranolol, ranitidine, digoxin, and others. Pregnant or breastfeeding women are advised not to use this medication. Animal studies during pregnancy have shown maternal toxicity at high doses, and during breastfeeding, only a minimal amount of the drug is excreted in breast milk, which could potentially affect the newborn. Overdose may result in gastrointestinal symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, and abdominal distension, so it is advisable to avoid foods or drinks containing carbohydrates for 4-6 hours, and seek appropriate treatment if symptoms are severe. This drug should be kept out of reach of children, and care should be taken not to transfer it to other containers as this may degrade its quality. Finally, although the effects of this medication on machine operation or driving are unknown, weight loss has been reported, so caution is advised during prolonged use.
