This medication is used to improve hypocalcemia, tetany, bone pain, and bone lesions caused by vitamin D metabolism disorders such as chronic renal failure, hypoparathyroidism, vitamin D resistant rickets, and osteomalacia. It is also used in the treatment of osteoporosis, effectively strengthening bones and increasing bone density to reduce fracture risk. These properties help maintain bone health and alleviate symptoms.

How to take

Adult dose

Chronic renal failure and osteoporosis: 0.5 to 1 ㎍ of alfacalcidol orally once daily. Hypoparathyroidism and other diseases due to vitamin D metabolism disorders: 1 to 4 ㎍ of this medication orally once daily.

Child dose

Osteoporosis: 0.01 to 0.03 ㎍ of alfacalcidol per kg of body weight orally once daily. Other conditions: 0.05 to 0.1 ㎍ of this medication per kg of body weight orally once daily.

Precautions

This medication should not be taken by individuals with excessively high levels of calcium and phosphorus in the blood. Additionally, it should be avoided by people with overly alkaline blood or those exhibiting symptoms of vitamin D overdose. If you have a known allergy to this medication or have previously shown hypersensitivity to any ingredient in it, you should not take this medication. During treatment, it is recommended not to use medications containing magnesium, vitamin D preparations, calcium supplements, or certain diuretics together. Particular caution is necessary due to the risk of developing hypermagnesemia or hypercalcemia. If you are breastfeeding or pregnant, consult with a doctor before taking this medication, and it is advisable to avoid taking it while breastfeeding if possible. Overdose may cause symptoms such as vomiting, nausea, muscle cramps, headaches, and impaired kidney function, so caution is required. Store this medication away from direct sunlight, in a cool, dry place, and out of reach of children.
