Precautions

This medication is a vaginal cleanser containing povidone-iodine, used for infection prevention and treatment. It should not be used in certain patients. For instance, those who are allergic to this medication or its components, have thyroid function issues, have impaired kidney function, infants under 6 months, patients with herpetic dermatitis, and those undergoing treatment with radioactive iodine should avoid its use. Patients with severe illness or a history of thyroid disease, as well as those with a history of renal insufficiency, should take special precautions when using this medication. There may be rare allergic reactions while using this medication, including pain, itching, irritation, and rash on the skin. If these symptoms are severe, use should be discontinued. Using large amounts can lead to electrolyte imbalances, kidney function abnormalities, or metabolic disorders, so caution is required. Prolonged use may cause changes in thyroid function, and overdose may result in a metallic taste, increased salivation, burning sensation in the throat or mouth, eye irritation, skin reactions, digestive issues, and difficulties in breathing. If used right before delivery, the newborn's eyes and skin should be cleaned thoroughly, and if symptoms do not improve, surgical treatment should be considered. When used on extensive burn patients, adequate hydration and careful observation of kidney and metabolic status are necessary. This medication can affect thyroid function tests, so it should be administered at least 1-2 weeks apart from testing, and attention should be paid to changes in thyroid function. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should avoid long-term or extensive use, and monitoring of thyroid function in newborns is recommended. This medication may interact with other medications; therefore, patients on lithium therapy should be cautious, and its effectiveness may be reduced when used with certain disinfectants. Avoid contact with the eyes, and if it does come into contact, rinse immediately with clean water. In cases of overdose, symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, and coma, requiring immediate medical attention. During storage, avoid exposure to direct sunlight and avoid metal containers. When using this medication, wash the skin and affected area thoroughly, and since soaps may reduce its disinfectant effect, ensure they are completely removed before use. Due to its strong disinfectant action, it is advisable not to use this medication if pregnancy is intended, and it is not used for the prevention or treatment of sexually transmitted diseases. If severe allergic symptoms such as sudden itching, swelling, or difficulty breathing occur after use, medical attention should be sought immediately.
