This medication is used for the treatment of urinary disorders due to benign prostatic hyperplasia and hypertension ranging from mild to moderate.
1. Urinary disorders due to benign prostatic hyperplasia Initial dose: 1mg orally at bedtime as the initial dose of terazosin; this dose should not be exceeded. Maintenance dose: Gradually increase until symptoms improve, typically 5-10mg once daily orally. When used with diuretics and other antihypertensives, the dosage should be reduced and increased if necessary. 2. This medicine is an alpha-blocker that works by dilating blood vessels to lower blood pressure. This drug should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to alpha-blockers, children under 12 years of age, and those with lactose intolerance or specific metabolic disorders. Patients with severely impaired liver or kidney function, orthostatic hypotension, heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, diabetes, and other specific disorders should use this drug with caution. The medication contains Yellow No. 5, so patients allergic to this ingredient should use it carefully. Dizziness, drowsiness, headache, and orthostatic hypotension due to lowered blood pressure may occur upon administration, so extra caution is needed when starting or adjusting the dose. This drug can cause fainting, so sudden changes in posture after taking it should be avoided, and if symptoms occur, it is important to lie down and rest immediately. In case of overdose, blood pressure may drop suddenly, so immediate consultation with medical personnel is required, as it cannot be removed by dialysis. Prompt treatment is necessary. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should use this medication cautiously, as its safety has not been established. It is advisable to avoid use while breastfeeding if possible. The safety and efficacy of this medication in children have not been confirmed, and it is recommended not to use it in this population. Elderly patients should start with a low dose and observe their condition due to the risk of brain infarction associated with blood pressure lowering. It is advisable to avoid driving or operating dangerous machinery while taking this drug, especially when starting or changing the dose. Although it is used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia, it may present symptoms similar to prostate cancer, so cancer status should be confirmed before treatment. Furthermore, if a patient taking this medication is to undergo cataract surgery, iris dilation syndrome may occur during surgery, so it is important to inform medical personnel of the medication use before surgery. This medication can be used alongside other medications, but caution is needed as the blood pressure-lowering effect may increase when combined with antihypertensives. Store out of reach of children and do not transfer to another container to maintain quality.
