How to take

Adult dose

Take the entire dose before meals with a small amount of water, or with a small amount of food. Adults should initially take 50 milligrams 3 times daily. Depending on tolerability, the dose is normally increased to a maintenance dose of up to 100 milligrams 3 times daily after 4-12 weeks of treatment.

Precautions

This medicine should not be used in certain patients. People who have allergies to this medicine or any of its components should not take it. Additionally, children and adolescents under 18 years of age, as well as pregnant or breastfeeding women, should not take this medicine. Patients with intestinal diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease, colonic ulcers, or bowel obstruction, or those at high risk of bowel obstruction should also avoid this medicine. Patients with digestive disorders or chronic intestinal diseases, hernias, etc., which may cause increased intestinal gas, should use caution. Patients with severely impaired kidney function, especially those with very poor kidney function, should not take this medicine. This medicine can exacerbate hypoglycemia when combined with sulfonylurea drugs, so dosage adjustments should be made if taken together. In case of hypoglycemic symptoms, it is better to treat with glucose instead of sucrose, as this medicine slows down the absorption of sugars. Taking this medicine may lead to an increase in undigested carbohydrates in the colon, which can increase intestinal gas. As a result, symptoms such as abdominal distension, diarrhea, and abdominal pain may occur, and these symptoms depend on the dosage and food intake. Most patients experience a reduction in symptoms over time, but if symptoms are severe, reducing the dose or avoiding foods high in sugar and carbohydrates may help. If diarrhea persists, medical observation is necessary, and in some cases, discontinuation of the medicine may be needed. During the use of this medicine, rare symptoms such as nausea, constipation, and dyspepsia may occur. In domestic use experiences, some patients have reported side effects such as vomiting, myalgia, dizziness, and itching. This medicine can interact with other medications. Particularly, when taken with glucose-lowering agents like glibenclamide or metformin, the drug effects may change, so caution is needed. Additionally, when used with intestinal adsorbents or digestive enzymes, the effectiveness of this medicine may decrease, so it is advisable not to take them together. Co-administration with laxatives may exacerbate diarrhea symptoms, so caution is advisable. There is also potential for interaction with propranolol, ranitidine, digoxin, so it is necessary to consult a physician. Pregnant women should avoid this medicine as its effects on the fetus are not well established. Breastfeeding women should also preferably avoid taking this medicine. In the case of overdose, symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, and abdominal distension may occur, and it is advisable to avoid carbohydrate intake for 4-6 hours. Diarrhea can be managed with standard conservative treatment, and additional treatment can be sought if necessary. This medicine should be kept out of the reach of children, and transferring it to another container can lead to accidents or deterioration of quality, so caution is required. The effect of this medicine on machinery operation or driving is not known. Long-term use may lead to weight loss, but no specific organ toxicity has been reported.
