Precautions

This medication is used in diabetes treatment and contains two ingredients that assist in blood sugar control. However, it should not be used in patients with impaired kidney function or certain serious conditions. Particularly, if kidney function is moderately impaired or worse, taking this medication may pose health risks, so patients should consult a doctor. Furthermore, this medication should be discontinued in the presence of severe infections, dehydration, heart failure, or acute myocardial infarction. Hypoglycemic symptoms may occur during treatment, so caution is needed when used with insulin or other hypoglycemic agents. Kidney and liver functions should be regularly monitored for abnormalities during treatment. Also, gastrointestinal disorders, urinary tract infections, genital infections, and increased urination may occur, so patients should promptly inform their physician if such symptoms arise. This medication can cause a rare but serious side effect called lactic acidosis, so immediate medical attention is required if symptoms such as vomiting, abdominal pain, weakness, or difficulty breathing appear. It is advisable for pregnant women, those who may become pregnant, and nursing women not to take this medication. Elderly patients or those at risk of decreased fluid levels should be more cautious when taking this medication and should be closely monitored for dehydration and cardiovascular irregularities. This medication must be taken strictly according to a doctor's prescription and guidance, and potential interactions with other medications should also be considered. When swallowing the tablets, they should not be crushed or chewed; they should be swallowed whole, and the tablet coating passing in the stool is normal.
