This medication is used in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia, helping to lower total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo B protein, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels. Conversely, it increases HDL cholesterol, thus improving blood lipid balance. It is primarily used as an adjunct to dietary treatment, contributing to effectively managing patients' blood lipid levels. This medication helps to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases through cholesterol regulation. Therefore, it is used for the management of hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia.

Precautions

This medication can rarely cause rhabdomyolysis, which can lead to serious muscle issues, so treatment should be temporarily or completely discontinued if acute myopathy symptoms appear or if there is a risk of severe kidney problems. This medication should not be used in patients who are allergic to its main component or ingredients, or in those with liver disease, myopathy, severe renal failure, or in women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Patients at higher risk of myopathy, such as those with decreased kidney function, hypothyroidism, or elderly patients, should be particularly cautious when using this medication. If symptoms such as myalgia, muscle cramps, or muscle weakness occur during treatment, the patient should immediately inform their healthcare provider, and blood tests may be needed to check for muscle damage. Since it can affect liver function, liver function tests should be performed before starting treatment. If symptoms of liver damage occur during treatment, immediate testing is required, and in severe cases, discontinuation of the medication is necessary. This medication should be used cautiously in patients with a history of excessive alcohol use or liver disease. Blood sugar levels may rise while taking this medication, so patients at risk for diabetes should regularly monitor their blood sugar levels. There may be interactions when taken with other medications, so patients should inform their doctor or pharmacist of any other medications they are taking. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not take this medication, and if pregnancy is confirmed during treatment, it should be discontinued immediately. Breastfeeding women should also avoid this medication for safety. Safety in pediatric patients has not been established, so it is not recommended, and caution is needed for elderly patients due to the risk of myopathy. In the case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, and appropriate treatment and supportive care should be received based on symptoms, while monitoring liver function and muscle condition should be essential. This medication should be stored out of the reach of children, and transferring it to other containers should be avoided.
