Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with primary glaucoma or shallow anterior chamber, as it may trigger an acute angle-closure glaucoma attack. It should not be administered to patients with allergic reactions to the components of this drug or children under 4 years of age. Caution is advised in patients with specific conditions such as Down syndrome, brain damage, spastic paralysis, prostate hypertrophy, bladder dysfunction, and acute pulmonary edema. Prolonged use of this medication may cause inflammation or irritation around the eyes, and in severe cases, serious side effects like respiratory depression and hypotension may occur. Reports of coma or death in children warrant particular caution. If symptoms of allergic conjunctivitis or blepharoconjunctivitis occur, use must be discontinued immediately. This drug may increase intraocular pressure and induce glaucoma attacks, so an intraocular pressure test and anterior chamber examination should be performed before use. Due to the mydriatic effect, vision may be blurred and sensitivity to light may increase, so it is advisable to avoid driving or operating dangerous machinery and wear sunglasses to avoid direct bright lights. Children and the elderly, especially premature babies, low birth weight infants, and children with Down syndrome or brain damage, are at increased risk of central nervous system side effects and systemic toxicity, thus requiring special attention. When used in conjunction with other anticholinergic medications, the efficacy may be enhanced, or side effects may increase, necessitating consultation with a physician or pharmacist regarding potential interactions with other medications being taken. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should only use this medication if necessary, as its effects on the fetus or newborn are not clearly understood, and special care is needed during breastfeeding. In case of overdose, symptoms of toxicity such as dry mouth, skin dryness, blurred vision, pulse irregularities, mental disturbances, and seizures may occur, and appropriate medical treatment should be sought immediately. Care should be taken to avoid direct contact of the container opening with the eyes during administration, and it is advisable to close the eyelids and apply pressure on the tear duct to reduce systemic absorption after use. This medication is for ophthalmic use only and should not be used for other purposes or shared with others.
