This medication is used to enhance blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes who are suitable for the combination therapy of Empagliflozin and Linagliptin. By taking it alongside dietary and exercise therapy, it helps manage blood sugar fluctuations and contributes to effective blood sugar control. Therefore, this medication is used as an adjunctive agent in the treatment of type 2 diabetes.

How to take

Adult dose

The recommended starting dose of this medication is 1 time daily of Empagliflozin 10 mg/Linagliptin 5 mg. If well tolerated and additional blood glucose control is needed, the dose can be increased to 1 time daily of 25/5 mg. It should be administered at the existing dosing regimen, regardless of meals. Tablets should be swallowed whole. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as remembered, but if the next dose is in less than 12 hours, skip the missed dose.

Precautions

This medication contains Empagliflozin and Linagliptin, primarily used for diabetes treatment. First of all, this medicine should not be administered to individuals who are allergic to Empagliflozin, Linagliptin, or any other components contained in this medication. Additionally, it should not be used by patients with type 1 diabetes or those suffering from diabetic ketoacidosis, patients undergoing dialysis, or those with a history of myocardial infarction. Patients with impaired renal function should have their renal function regularly assessed before and during treatment with this medication. In patients with mild to moderate heart failure, caution should be exercised, and this medication is not recommended for those with severe heart failure. During treatment with this medication, there is a risk of developing serious pancreatic diseases such as acute pancreatitis, so if there is persistent severe abdominal pain, the medication should be discontinued immediately and a physician should be consulted. Additionally, skin-related adverse reactions such as blistering and bullous pemphigoid may occur, requiring immediate discontinuation of the medication if skin abnormalities are observed. The most common side effect of this medication is urinary tract infection, and other rare side effects may include hypoglycemia, pancreatitis, hypersensitivity reactions, etc. Particularly, when taken with insulin or sulfonylureas, there is an increased risk of hypoglycemia, so caution is required. Decreased blood pressure or dehydration due to fluid volume loss may occur, so caution should be exercised in patients with cardiovascular diseases, the elderly, or those with hypotension. This medication may increase the risk of genital fungal infections, and appropriate treatment should be sought if any related symptoms arise. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid using this medication, especially during breastfeeding, as the drug components may be transmitted to breast milk, making it advisable to stop breastfeeding. Safety and efficacy in children under 18 years of age have not been established, and thus it is not recommended for use. In the case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, so it is important to receive appropriate treatment based on symptoms. Finally, this medication should be stored out of reach of children and kept in its original container to preserve the safety and quality of the product.
