This medication is used to help manage blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. It is particularly effective for those who are also following dietary and exercise regimens, and helps to better manage blood sugar levels through the combined administration of empagliflozin and linagliptin. Therefore, it is used to improve blood sugar levels and assist in the management of diabetes.

How to take

Adult dose

The recommended starting dose of this medication is once daily at 10 mg empagliflozin and 5 mg linagliptin. If additional blood glucose control is needed and the patient can tolerate the dosage, it may be increased to 25 mg/5 mg once daily. This should continue to be administered at the previous dosage. Precautions

This medication is composed of two ingredients: empagliflozin and linagliptin. It is used to help manage blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. This medication should not be used by certain patients. For example, those with an allergy to any ingredients of this medication, type 1 diabetes patients, patients with diabetic ketoacidosis, patients undergoing dialysis, and those with a history of myocardial infarction should not take this medication. Patients with poor renal function must check their renal function before taking this medication and should also regularly monitor renal status during treatment. Moreover, caution is needed for patients with heart failure, and it is not recommended for those with severe heart failure. Serious skin conditions, such as acute pancreatitis or bullous pemphigoid, may occur while taking this medication, so patients should inform their doctor immediately if they experience severe abdominal pain or develop blisters on the skin. The most common side effect is urinary tract infection; other side effects may include hypoglycemia, thirst, cough, constipation, itching, and rash. Particularly, the risk of hypoglycemia increases when taken with insulin or sulfonylureas, so caution is necessary. This medication may lower blood pressure, hence, patients at risk of hypotension or dehydration, particularly those aged over 75 years, should take it with caution. Additionally, this medication may increase the risk of genital fungal infections; if infection symptoms arise, treatment should be sought. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid taking this medication, and especially during breastfeeding, it is recommended to discontinue breastfeeding. The safety and efficacy of this medication in children have not been established, and it should not be used in patients under 18 years of age. In case of overdose, the patient should seek immediate medical attention for appropriate treatment, as the components of this medication may not be removed through blood dialysis. This medication should be stored out of reach of children, and it is safe to keep it in its original container. While taking this medication, special attention is required when driving or operating machinery due to the risk of hypoglycemia, especially if taken with insulin or sulfonylureas. Finally, patients taking this medication should have regular check-ups with their doctor and consult immediately if any abnormal symptoms occur.
