Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with allergic reactions to any of its components. It should be administered with caution in patients currently taking other serotonergic medications, such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) or serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). Constipation or hard stools may occur frequently during treatment with this medication; if symptoms worsen, consult a physician immediately. Symptoms like abdominal pain or blood in the stool may indicate serious side effects like ischemic colitis, thus treatment should be discontinued immediately and a healthcare provider should be consulted. Severe constipation may lead to serious complications such as bowel obstruction or intestinal perforation, so appropriate measures should be taken if constipation symptoms arise. Women may be more prone to side effects such as abdominal pain, constipation, and hard stools, so extra caution is advised for female patients. If symptoms do not improve, the physician should be consulted regarding the continuation of treatment based on a 3-month duration starting from treatment initiation, and long-term use should be avoided. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should carefully consider the risks and benefits of using this medication due to potential hazards. Breastfeeding women are advised to discontinue breastfeeding, as this medication may pass into breast milk. Safety in children, neonates, and low birth weight infants has not been established, so use should be avoided in these populations. Elderly patients may have impaired physiological functions; thus, their conditions should be monitored closely during treatment and any adverse reactions should be addressed immediately. Patients should be careful not to swallow the PTP packaging intact and must remove the medication from its packaging before ingestion, as failure to do so may result in esophageal injury or serious complications. Additionally, since this medication is metabolized in the liver, caution should be exercised when taking it together with other medications that affect liver function, as this may increase blood concentration and risk of side effects, and patients should inform their healthcare provider.
