View approved original text

Pitavastatin 2mg as monotherapy effectively lowers LDL cholesterol levels in high-risk adult patients with coronary artery disease. However, in cases of mixed dyslipidemia, there may be a need for additional management of this aspect as triglyceride levels are elevated and HDL cholesterol levels are low. This medication is primarily used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases by modulating LDL cholesterol.

Precautions

This medication is used to lower blood lipid levels. During treatment, muscle-related symptoms such as pain, weakness, and cramps may appear; if these symptoms occur, you should immediately consult a healthcare professional. Particularly, elderly patients, women, patients with impaired kidney function, uncontrolled hypothyroid patients, patients with a history or family history of muscle diseases, and patients with alcohol dependence are at a higher risk for muscle damage and should be cautious. When taken with other lipid-lowering agents or certain medications, the risk of muscle toxicity may increase, so you must inform your healthcare professional about all medications you are taking. If there are issues with liver function or a history of liver disease, regular liver function tests are required, and if symptoms of hepatitis or significant liver enzyme elevations occur, the medication should be discontinued. This medication is contraindicated in patients with moderate to severe renal impairment, and mild renal impairment patients should take it with caution. There is a risk of pancreatitis with this medication; therefore, patients with a history of pancreatitis or those showing symptoms should consult a healthcare professional immediately. Pregnant or potentially pregnant women, nursing mothers, and children under 18 years of age should not take this medication. This medication may rarely cause skin rashes, itching, severe skin reactions, or allergic responses; if unusual symptoms occur, the patient should immediately discontinue use and consult a doctor. Caution is necessary as dizziness may occur while driving or operating machinery. Before and during treatment, regular blood tests and kidney and liver function assessments are necessary, and if there is no therapeutic effect, treatment should be discontinued. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote; symptomatic and supportive treatment is required. This medication must be taken with food, and during storage, it should be placed in a location out of reach of children and kept in its original container.
